Career
From 1980 to 1990, Fred Teeven worked as a fiscal investigator for the Fiscal Information and Investigation Service (FIOD). He then worked as a FIOD customs investigation team leader in Rotterdam and Haarlem from 1990 to 1993.
In 1993, Mr Teeven was appointed public prosecutor at Amsterdam district court. From 2002 to 2003, he was a member of the House of Representatives for Liveable Netherlands. He then moved to the National Public Prosecutors' Office, where from 2003 to 2004 he was responsible for prosecuting war crimes, and from 2004 to 2006 he worked as a team leader/public prosecutor at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport.
In 2006, Fred Teeven became a member of the House of Representatives for the People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD). He represented the VVD on the permanent parliamentary committee for justice.
On 14 October 2010, Fred Teeven was appointed State Secretary of Security and Justice in the Rutte government.
